Given the drought conditions of the past few years here in Melbourne, we don't feel we should complain about the cold, rainy weather that has enveloped the city and surrounding areas for the past two months, even if it is the rainiest winter in twenty-two years. We continue to receive apologies from Melburnians when they hear we are recent arrivals to their beautiful city, along with promises that the weather will soon improve. Happily, we are noticing more and more signs that warmer weather must be on its way.
The next three are of the rose bushes in our front garden:
The remaining pictures I took today, the first day that has truly felt like spring to me. Up to this point the weather lately has reminded me more of autumn. I suspect this may be because the month of September is linked inextricably with back-to-school, pumpkins, changing leaves, and fresh apple pies. I catch myself saying or thinking "this fall" when referring to the coming months, until I remind myself that we are about to experience spring all over again.
In a sidenote, completely unrelated to the rest of this post, I overheard Katie telling a friend of hers today that there are "heaps and heaps of baby pictures" of her since she is the first child in the family. This particular friend had already used the word "heaps" at least twice within the first five minutes of the conversation, so I am not surprised that this is the first Australian expression that I have heard her use unselfconsciously.
I'll definitely enjoy your spring and summer pictures as I'm digging us out from feet of snow!

I am jealous of all the blooms in the garden. My flowers suffered terribly this summer w/ lack of water. I about gave up on them by mid-July. About Katie....cute! Brianna could certainly relate to the first-born thing.
