Today we accomplished something we have discussed for weeks, if not months, namely meeting up with Ross for lunch on a weekday. The happy little boy that accompanied me into the city whispered conspiratorially on the train that he would be careful not to say anything about it to his sisters. The weather could not have been better for this first day in June, the first day of winter in Australia. We woke up to a chilly 39 degrees, but the sun had warmed things up enough by lunchtime for us to eat outdoors, and even feel a bit too warm in the direct sunlight.
Thankfully big brother was able to spend some read-aloud time with the impatient four-year-old who was waiting for me to finish getting ready. No surprises in the book chosen. His obsession with trains has yet to wane, and he can often be hearding wishing for just one more ride on Puffing Billy.
The walk to the train station was most enjoyable, and included colors for me to savor complemented by noisy roadworks for J. The excitement included no less than three separate bobcats in action. Somehow we made it past them and did not miss our train.
We spent some time on a pedestrian bridge over the Yarra River waiting for R to finish his meeting.
J was impressed by this restaurant located underneath the bridge.
R's building through the trees:
Still waiting for Daddy . . .
The wait proved to be worthwhile.
Afterward, J convinced his dad that he needed ice cream from the Trampoline conveniently located just behind us. The grown-ups, having consumed too much ice cream and too many pastries in the past ten months, contented themselves with coffee.
I'm not sure it's possible for one small boy to love his daddy any more than this boy does.
Home once more:
Oh Christie, This is so precious! My eyes are tearing up at the comment of how much James LOVES his Daddy followed by that terrific photo of Ross holding James. Well captured and well captioned. I could see and feel the love. The photo of you at the end is very precious too. A pretty lady in a pretty picture.
