Yesterday was Cameron's final basketball game of the regular season for our community basketball league. I must confess that I had not yet been to a single game, so this time I went, camera in tow of course. Playing basketball has been a great experience for Cameron, a nice change from the steep learning curve and challenge of cricket. We love it because he runs hard up and down the court for an hour during weekly training sessions, and the games are over in forty short minutes. As an extra bonus, there are no breaks for afternoon tea, and therefore, no need to prepare and bring food for the team.
Ross has been Cameron's most faithful fan, but Katie has attended many of the games as well. Yesterday Ross got to work the scoreboard, not his favorite thing to do by any means, but he survived.
The father of triplet sons the same age as Cameron, the coach has been a great blend of encouragement and intensity. Two of the triplets play on the team, and they are generally among the top scorers. Cameron is quite happy to dribble the ball down the court and feed it to one of them.
Cameron's team won this game easily and thus secured second place on the ladder in the finals beginning next Saturday. They will face the same team they just defeated, but winning will likely be more difficult as the opposing team's top scorer and coach were both missing from yesterday's game.
