The girls and I are preparing for quick weekend away to the world's sunniest capital city. Fittingly, the forecast is for rain and cool temperatures. We did bring the rain with us when we moved to Australia three years ago, breaking a ten year drought, so I suppose this is what we should expect. Two years ago we also had the immense privilege of seeing Ayers Rock in the rain, a rare event. (If I hear anyone tell me that I am lucky to witness this particular corner of Australia in the rain this weekend, I will certainly be smiling back through gritted teeth.)
Our destination is not only the sunniest capital, it also happens to be the world's most isolated, according to some measures at least, and the third windiest. It boasts the highest percentage of millionaires, and it has more restaurants per head of population than any other city. Any guesses as to where we are headed? If you think you know, don't hesitate to leave a comment below!
I will be back in a few days with photos and descriptions of our weekend, but in the meantime I will leave you with a piece of exciting news for our family. After two years of longing and fervent praying, our third child was granted her wish of being chosen class captain for a term. We both realized she was running out of possible opportunities, so when she emailed me on the first day of term 4 with the happy news, I was thrilled for her. There are certainly many more 'important' leadership positions out there, but this is one being taken very seriously indeed by a certain ten-year-old, and one that has brought a sense of joy and pride to both our daughter and her parents.
Perth perhaps?

Google says Perth! I cheated. Have a great time. From listening to Linda's stories I'll just say- watch out for snakes!!! So are you taking the train over? Just kidding. Ever since I read the book about Australia I thought it would be so cool to take that train ride the author (was that Bryson?) took to Perth. Enjoy.

I'm actually annoyed that our guests have seen more snakes than I have. And yes, Bill Bryson is the author.
