One evening this week I headed into the city with a couple of fellow photography enthusiasts. I have never before tried to photograph Melbourne in the evening--and what a mistake that has been. At times the harsh summer light made things tricky, but as the sun made its way to the horizon, it did its magic. I hope you enjoy this picture post of Melbourne in the evening.
I was attracted by all of the lines and curves we encountered both indoors and out.
Visiting my favorite laneway was a must. It is strangely empty in the evening.
We spent some time admiring the Christmas decorations inside the shopping center on Collins St.
I also did a bit of window shopping along the way. Melbourne has gorgeous window displays.
I was trying to capture the rowers above. I didn't notice the pretty reflections in the water until later.
Walking across this footbridge over the Yarra River, we noticed hundreds of padlocks with names and dates written on them. They began appearing earlier this year, according to an article in the Age entitled 'The Lock of Love Secures Romance.'
I hope to check in again with a Christmas post. In the meantime, we have lots of packing and driving to do as we make our way north for one last Christmas at the beach. All the best to you and yours during the holiday season.
Love this! Thank you for this picture post of Melbourne.
Merry Christmas and very best wishes for 2014.
We love you!

Beautiful photos Christie. I wish we had been able to make it "down under" while you were there. At least we have gotten to know Melbourne a little from your wonderful posts.
Merry Christmas to each of you from the cold and snowy north! Have a great time at the beach.

Christie you have taken the most wonderful photos of Melbourne. It looks gorgeous and is a fantastic place to be at this time of the year. Hope you have a great holiday in Qld and I am sure your holiday snaps will be beautiful too. See you next year!

Fantastic photos! You have captured a couple here that gave me pause for thought. I love how Melbourne has transformed its alleys! It is a beautiful city and I love living here. I've lived in other parts of Australia, both rural and city (Sydney) but nothing beats this wonderful cosmopolitan city. And I agree, Melbourne has great window displays! Though I didn't much enjoy the Myer Christmas windows as much this year for some reason.

Thanks so much for the kind words. I skipped the Myer window displays this year and just photographed the crowds waiting to view them instead.

Wonderful pictures! I am new to your blog but have loved reading it! I seem to be entering a similar situation as you... moving to Melbourne for 3 years from Erie. This post got me excited for next Christmas! I'd love to ask you a few questions if you have time to share your thoughts on schooling, etc. I have learned so much from reading your posts already. Thank you!
