Two years ago I composed a photo post, September from the iphone, at the start of what was for us the spring season in Melbourne. Today, with both my kitchen and laundry room torn to pieces, I decided to do something similar. I am blaming the chaos that surrounds me for my failure to bring enough order to my thoughts to compose a coherent post. Instead, I hope you enjoy this collection of photos taken on my phone during the past few weeks. It will give you a glimpse of what we have been up to as we have continued to adjust to living back in Pittsburgh.
Jaunts through local parks and neighborhoods:
Lunch with friends:
Above: This was the view we enjoyed from Over the Bar, a newish restaurant/cafe at the North Park Boathouse. The cappuccino was the best I have tasted since we left Melbourne, and my BLT sandwich, complete with avocado and fried egg, reminded me of Melbourne cafe fare. The service even felt familiar: Our waitress, while friendly enough, had mastered the art of disappearing just when we needed her, and then when she did look our direction, successfully avoided our eyes and gestures every time. At least we had a beautiful view to enjoy while we waited (and waited).
Below: At the Bartram House Bakery, another cafe that came highly recommended to me by friends, I enjoyed a delicious pumpkin bisque. The day was chilly, I was starving, and it really hit the spot. I could, however, have done without the sweetened whipped cream on top. It tasted more like pumpkin pie in a cup than pumpkin soup.
Checking out my cousin's beautiful new kitchen and stealing a few ideas:
Saturday morning soccer:
(And the next one isn't from my phone, but I wanted to include it since it shows J in action):
R spent some time sitting in traffic in Mexico City (and eating corn tortillas), and then enjoying the view in Boston. He also went to Cincinatti (I think), and predictably, returned home sick after all of his travels.
Construction began inside our house:
C learned to shoot a gun:
More walks around the neighborhood and through local parks:
Today as I type the destruction indoors continues. Below you can see the view behind me, and the one in front. I prefer the front view.
Wishing you warmth and joy on what is for us a chilly fall day in the Northern Hemisphere.
Beautiful photos Christie. Nature surely surpasses anything we can reproduce. At the moment, our weather is on a par with yours - only Spring colours instead of your rich Autumn ones.

Love this idea for a post. I always enjoy these "slices of life." And, the tree in that final picture is a stunner. I'd be pretty taken with that view, as well. Hope your renovations aren't too painful!

Thanks Judy. I'm sure you are enjoying the spring colors---and fragrances. That's what I remember most about spring in Melbourne. Cristin, it's not too painful yet (except for having to completely empty out the kitchen), but I have a feeling that "camping" inside our house will get old very quickly. I decided a few months ago, however, that renovating would be less painful than moving ...
