It's the 22nd of December, and the house is filled with an intoxicating mix of aromas. I wish that I could tell you that the source was from wonderful culinary things happening in the kitchen. I can close my eyes and imagine what I would like those smells to be: cinnamon rolls, homemade caramels and candy cane cookies mixed in with the irresistible scent of fresh evergreen boughs. But no. That will have to wait for next year. Instead my nose identifies carpet glue, countertop cement, and fresh paint. They are smells that are more likely to induce a headache than whet the appetite.
Never mind. The sun has been shining nearly all day, a first in longer than I can remember. There are a few presents scattered under the tree---enough to bring some smiles on Christmas Day I hope. My mom and grandma delivered a supply of fresh baked goods yesterday, including a pumpkin pie, muffins, severals kinds of cookies, and their famous cornmeal rolls. This December may not have gone exactly as I had planned, but I don't have to think very long before I can identify an abundance of blessings. I hope the same is true for my readers, and I wish you all of you the very best as this year draws to a close.
Have a wonderful Christmas, and a relaxing time celebrating with family.
