While our younger three played in the sand and water of Apollo Bay last Saturday week, I amused myself with my camera. Where was Katie on this gorgeous afternoon? Exactly where I would have chosen to be at her age, much to my mother's consternation no doubt: Nose inside a book, relaxing by the fire inside the apartment. My mother must have at many times believed there to be no hope for me, but I did eventually come to see the value of being outdoors, and even to prefer it on occasion. So there might be hope for our first born as well.
Beyond the intensity of the blues and greens of water and sky, the serenity of the hills in the background, and the soothing sounds of the surf, what I enjoyed most on this afternoon was the harmony displayed amongst the children as they played together. We could do with more afternoons like this one.
